KINGDOM SUPER Y-LEAGUE
PRESS RELEASE (Ko Yamamoto and Paige Wester)
Portage, MI (March 27, 2007) - Ko Yamamoto and Paige Wester, Kingdom Reserve soccer players from Portage, successfully demonstrated their competitive edge at Olympic Development Program camps this winter and are one step away from being called up for a United States Youth National team.

Wester, an eighth-grader at Central Middle School, plays on the Reserves U-14 team and is a member of Michigan's 1992 ODP squad. Her play throughout the winter sessions was so impressive to the state ODP coaches they unanimously agreed to add her to the 1991 National ODP team.

"Imagine being able to play up an age group at this level of play," said Chris Keenan, Kingdom coaching director. "It's a great accomplishment for Paige and the club is very proud of her."

Mike Haines, head coach of Western Michigan University's women's team, coaches Wester's Reserves team and qualifies Wester as a "very dangerous player."

"Paige is a great competitor who has a knack for scoring goals," Haines said. "I am very excited to see what Paige can do against some of the best players in the nation. In our training leading up to this event, she has proven to me that she has all the qualities it will take to be successful on the national level."

Wester's state ODP team competed at the 2007 U.S. Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (U.S. Youth Soccer ODP) National Championships March 16 and 18 at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas, a suburb of Dallas. The competition serves as a stage for collegiate coaches to observe players ages U-15 to U-17 who represent the future of American soccer at the collegiate and international levels.

Yamamoto, a three-year soccer standout at Portage Central High School now attending Saline High School, took a different route to the national stage with similar results when he was selected to advance at the Super Y-League National Olympic Development Program (ODP) camps held in January. Yamamoto is in the final selection stage for the 1988/1989 and 1990 Super Y-League Select teams for the 2007 season. He has been signed by Western Michigan University's soccer team and will begin school there in the fall.

The players selected to the Super Y-League Select Team will be recommended by the ODP scouting system to the U.S. National Team Coaching Staff. United Soccer Leagues, host of the Super Y-League, will also explore opportunities to provide these players with domestic or international exposure to enhance player development.

"Ko is a highly skilled midfielder who has played a big role in helping every team he has played on to score," Keenan said. "I anticipate he will be a big contributor to Western's squad and that he'll continue to advance on the national stage."
